Equine Massage & Bodywork
SERVICES & RATES
Payment is due at time of service. Upping Stone accepts cash, check, and credit card (processing fees apply). Checks made payable to 'Maribeth Mills' or 'Upping Stone'. Massage and bodywork are not a substitute for veterinary care.
An initial consultation at your home barn will be required prior to a maintenance or pre-event* session. A consultation includes a thorough health and training history, gait analysis, palpation of soft tissue, full massage/bodywork session, and documentation of findings. It is important to remember that this is a fact-finding appointment and your horse's introduction to massage. While tension may be found and released, it often takes up to three sessions for the benefits of massage to be fully realized. Following the consultation, you will be emailed a description of findings as well as recommendations for maintenance tailored to your horse's needs. For more information on what to expect before, during, and after your session, please visit What to Expect.
*New clients should schedule an initial consultation at least 1 week prior to competition.

Upping Stone offers the
Wilson-Meagher Method of Equine Sportsmassage which combines a series of specific soft tissue applications based in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. This method targets the horse’s Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) which is responsible for synchronizing the body into the proper sequence of motions and can be significantly impaired by muscle tightness. The Wilson-Meagher Method restores the horse’s natural PNF by stimulating receptors in the Golgi tendons, signaling the muscle to release and returning it to maximum efficiency. Masterson Method Integrated Bodywork techniques may also be incorporated to create a customized session.
Please visit the Benefits page to learn how massage and bodywork can restore optimal performance to your horse.

Min. 45 minute appointment
Pre-event sessions promote optimal performance and reduce recovery time. These sessions provide a general loosening and can be performed at your home barn or the showgrounds. This service is only provided to established clients as the release of tension may alter your horse’s range of motion and way of going. Although this is a good thing, both you and your horse will need time to adapt – the showgrounds are not the ideal place!
*A pre-event session should be scheduled within 7 hours of your first class. Post-event maintenance sessions should be scheduled a minimum of 3 days after your last class.
*A minimum number of pre-event sessions scheduled on the same day and at the same event may be required for events during weekend hours and/or travel beyond 20 miles of the 24018 zip code.
