An initial consultation at your home barn will be required prior to an event* or maintenance session. A consultation includes a thorough health and training history, palpation of soft tissue, full massage/bodywork session, and documentation of findings. It is important to remember that this is a fact-finding appointment and your horse's introduction to massage. While tension may be found and released, it often takes up to three sessions to start seeing results. Following the consultation, you will be emailed a detailed description of findings as well as recommendations for maintenance tailored to your horse's needs. For more information on what to expect before, during, and after your session, please visit What to Expect.
* An initial consultation should not be scheduled less that one week from competition.

A regular maintenance plan helps prevent the harmful development of stress patterns, reduces tension, and promotes relaxation. Please visit the Benefits page for a list of performance issues known to improve with massage and bodywork. Upping Stone offers the following modalities.
Sports Massage: Sports massage is the non-invasive application of compression, friction, direct pressure, and percussion strokes to the voluntary muscle system. This technique loosens adhesions and lengthens muscle fibers, increasing range of motion, improving circulation, and removing waste and toxins.
Integrated Bodywork: The Masterson Method combines elements of various massage and bodywork modalities to release accumulated stress and tension in muscles, connective tissue, and structure. The three key junctions of the body are targeted through light touch and gentle movement in a relaxed state improving suppleness, mobility, comfort, and willingness to perform.

1 to 1 ½ hour appointment.
Pre and post-event sessions promote optimal performance and reduces recovery time by decreasing the physical and emotional stress which often accompanies competition. These shorter sessions provide a general loosening and can be performed at your home barn or the showgrounds. This service is only provided to established clients as the release of tension may alter the horse’s range of motion and way of going. Although this is a good thing, both you and your horse will need time to adapt – the showgrounds are not the ideal place!
Pre-Event: Performed up to 24 hours* prior to your first class.
Post-Event: Performed 24 to 48 hours after your last class.
*Horses competing in dressage, cutting, or saddle seat should schedule a pre-event session no less than 4 days prior to competition.
